Teletrac Navman introduced a comprehensive fleet telematics package for Shetland Council in late 2016, and the software is already yielding results for one of the most isolated communities in the UK.

The solution includes the market-leading Director platform, smart telematics and the M-Nav 950 commercial Sat Nav and has been implemented across Shetland Council’s mixed fleet of 230 vehicles from six wheel tipper trucks and gritters, through to small vans and everything between.

Savings of over £100,000, improved customer service

For a self-sufficient council such as the Shetlands, living within their means is critical and Teletrac Navman’s telematics solution have saved the council on average £8,400 a month since March 2017 through fuel reduction alone, equating to an annual saving of over £100,000.

Protecting drivers in remote locations

Many Shetland employees spend a significant amount of time lone working, which can encompass responding to emergencies. Teletrac Navman’s telematics software lets managers know where they are and if they’re safe. Implementation of camera technology

The council have installed dashboard cameras in all vehicles and a 360 degree camera systems for refuse lorries and cherry pickers. When used alongside telematics, businesses have more protection against fraudulent accident claims and lower insurance premiums via improved driver behaviours. The technology has already proved valuable in a number of incidents and is a tool to implementing when trying to protect the reputation of Shetland Council.
