Drone Deliveries - the UK wants them now
Teletrac Navman’s social survey reveals nearly half of consumers are ready for drone deliveries
A survey by Teletrac Navman out today reveals that an overwhelming 46 percent of people said they’d be “amazed” if their next delivery was made by drone and that they totally “love the idea,” as they expect that deliveries would “arrive much faster.”
The social survey of over 3000 respondents went on to reveal that a further 36 percent said they’d be shocked by the prospect of drone deliveries becoming a reality, finding the notion surreal, with one person suggesting “it’ll never happen.”
Some 12 percent would be sad to wave goodbye to conventional delivery methods, saying they would “miss the post man.”
A minority of 5% said they’d be angry about it and considered drones to be a destructive technology which is contributing to “doing every man and women out of a job”, with some saying they would “cease to shop online” if it became reality.
Speaking on the poll results, Peter Millichap, UK Marketing Director at Teletrac Navman, says:
“It is really interesting to think about the impact drones could have on our industry. They could actually be a great answer to making the ‘last mile’ of deliveries more efficient for fleets. The ‘last mile’ in the delivery process is often the most expensive, in terms of mileage and time, so fleet managers may even look to integrate drones into their fleets to make significant business improvements in the future.
“Let’s watch this space and see if drones really take off in coming years when the necessary regulations are in are in place and they are ready to enter commercial operations.”
“We were quite surprised how ready people were for drone deliveries. To be honest, we thought most wouldn’t be so keen as people can sometimes be reluctant for change, but for almost half to say they’d be happy if their next delivery was by drone was interesting.
“As drone deliveries should naturally improve efficiency and help meet ever-rising customer expectations and demands, customers are clearly ready for the next step towards any improvements in that department.
“In the future, seeing drones in the air may become as normal to us as seeing delivery vans and trucks on the roads today – let’s watch this space and see the impact it has on the overall delivery process.”
